The Ghetto Porch Experiment...

Which I've been told is a scary phrase...

Anyway the GS and I decided to try and create a cheap screen porch around the back. We have one that's covered, and it wouldnt be that hard to actually screen it in if we had the tools and equipment to do it. But we don't, nor do we actually have the money to afford wood and the equipment to do it. And most everyone that does construction work has quoted us about 2grand to actually put up the porch. So we decided to try and do it ourselves with screen and the fix-it-all of the south...duct tape.

Theoretically it works, we hung sheets of screen attached to the overhang with ducttape and overlapping each other (the plan was to sew em together with fishing line) to keep bugs out. It worked great the first night, that's when we discovered that duct tape doesnt stick to screen. I'm not sure why since it sticks to everything else unto the sun, but not screen. We continue undaunted though, next thing I'm going to try is velcro...either that or sewing the damn screen to the duct tape. God I feel so trailor trashy...

Spent the last Monday running bug-bug to the doctor. She has pleurisy, which I didn't even think still existed. Of course the only experience with it I've heard of was in the Cheaper by the Dozen books. And he used the Quinine Remedy. I've thought about trying it with her, because there's nothing like Quinine and Castor oil to make you forget that something hurts.

We had a girl day, which means that we all had homemade pedicures, and manicures for the girls. Grydork wanted to scare her friends by reminding them she is female (it worked, one of them asked who the new girl was /grin) so we broke out all the fun stuff. Well fun for most of them, cause I conned the GS into getting a pedicure...no we didn't paint his toes or anything, though the kids were trying hard. The GS has really really dry feet, so I stuck him in the soaker and slathered him up. It was a Queer Eye moment to be sure. Did a french manicure on Grydork, and blue toenails, and tried to do acrylics on Bug. They came out okay, but I am definately not that good at them, I'll have to practice a lot more to get them right. Or ask mom.

The other disaster of girl day was that I accidentally shaved off half of Bugs eyebrow. Not on purpose, and I blame shitty cutters. It's not bald, just very very short and thin. Yes mother has questioned my sanity about why I did it. And she yelled, which makes the Bug feel better.

And lastly but not leastly, we have been having HORRIBLE internet woes. Slower than molassis in January it's been (tested this morning and it was a 237 download speed, yes I know we might as well have dial up). We recently bundled our phone service with our cable and internet, and the first night was wonderful. We had a cable outage and since then it's been the suck.

So we call yesterday and find that there's a global area issue, and they'll get someone to work on it. The cable company is really good at doing stuff, so when it sucked this morning we called again. The guy asked if we had done a power recycle on the modem...to which the Geeky Spouse wearing Grumpy Pants* was like no, we did a reset. The cable guy said he'd send out a tech to check stuff out beacause even if it's noisy there shouldn't have been that bad. So after the phone call I did what he had said and whola! speed back to where it's supposed to be. Apparently the new modem has a battery backup so if your power goes out you still have phone service for emergencies. You have to take that out too to really reset your modem after a hickey.

*Spouse wearing Grumpy Pants comes when he believes we have gotten a level 1 tech that thinks we are stupid...which in this case was correct.
